Engineering is the noble profession which develops and implements ways to improve our quality of life, providing ways to simplify our day to day tasks and accomplish things we never thought possible. Engineering achievements provide a legacy of where we have been and how far we have evolved. We are surrounded by engineering marvels. Yet we hardly tend to realize or appreciate them.

Engineering as a whole is comprised of many different fields - Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, etc., to name a few. Structural engineering is a branch of Civil engineering which has evolved as a specialization in the design of structures that provide many different functions (example: homes, commercial and retail buildings, malls, arenas, hospitals, refineries, and bridges to name a few)
