Aloha
Consider this your formal invitation to several days and nights filled with great times at our annual convention. You can select a five or a nine day adventure in beautiful Hawaii. Join us October 1-6, 1996, for the convention at the Westin Resort in Beautiful Maui and add the half day pre-convention seminar on the island of Hawaii if you so choose. Don't miss them! Mark your calendar! Make your reservations!
The focus of the convention's technical program will be Performance-Based Seismic Engineering: Today's Applications and Tomorrow's Directions. New design approaches for achieving specific seismic performance objectives will be compared and evaluated by the technical experts. The objective will be to de-mystify the technical basis and reveal the resulting design products. Our technical sessions will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, leaving you the afternoons for fun in the sun.
Please join us for a welcome Mai-Tai party Tuesday as we watch the sun set over the warm Pacific in the company of new and old friends. Wednesday evening, after a hard afternoon at the beach, you will be entertained Hawaiian-style at our festive Luau. Bring your appetite to the Whaler's Dinner on Thursday where the finest seafood buffet will be served under the stars. Friday night, it's off to find that perfect restaurant along the beach or in nearby Lahaina. Finally, be our guests on Saturday night for dinner and dancing at the "Orchids Under the Moonlight Dinner".
SEAOC has negotiated with United Airlines to handle air transportation to Hawaii from San Francisco and Los Angeles. United will allow SEAOC members 5% off full coach, business or first class fares. Also, arrangements are being made with American Trans Air (A chartered airliner) for cost-conscious individuals.
The sporting events include our normal golf, tennis and volleyball tournaments as well as a fun run. The President's Cup race will be a cocktail-hour event this year and will be hosted by the infamous Club Curry.
Immediately preceding, and as an opening to the convention, the Applied Technology Council will conduct a seminar on "Guidelines for the Seismic Rehabilitation of Buildings" (ATC 33). The seminar will be held at the Royal Waikaloan on the island of Hawaii. The half-day pre-convention seminar date is September 30. 1996 but we have arranged for special room rates from September 27, 1996. Also, the National Council of Structural Engineers intend to have their annual convention at the Royal Waikaloan on September 28 and 29, 1996.
Bring your kids! The Westin has a family-oriented Westin Kid's Club and an action-packed Keiki Kamp. The 1996 Convention Committee is committed to presenting you with fun choices for the whole family, including a new addition... SEAOC LATE NIGHT!
