Thursday Lunch
Greet your SEAOC friends and travel companions
at this casual, buffet luncheon on the lower floor level (pool level) in the Sea View
Rooms.
Aquarium of the
Pacific, Dinner and Tour on Thursday
Bring your entire family for an evening at the
Aquarium of the Pacific where SEAOC has the entire facility for our exclusive use. After a
short 5 minute walk to the Aquarium from our hotel, we have arranged for a casual dinner
and touring of the Aquarium. Dinner will consist of several different food and beverage
stations where you will have your choice of touring the facility either before or after
eating. The Aquarium of the Pacific takes you on a journey through the Pacific Ocean.
Experience the sights, sounds, and even the textures of the worlds' largest body of water
with interactive exhibits.
Denim and
Diamonds Dinner
Join us Friday evening at the OK Corral for a
rip-roaring western event. Wear your best jeans, cowboy boots and "diamonds".
Cowboy hats will be provided at the Corral. We will be dancing to the sounds of Henry
Becker and Team Honky Tonk along with a line-dancing instructor. Loads of fun, good food,
and photo ops! See you their Partner!
Young and New
Members Social Hour
Please join us at the Rotunda on the 2nd floor of the Long
Beach Hyatt across from the exhibitor area for a social hour hosted by the SEAOSC Young
Members Committee. All SEAOC young members and new members of SEAOC are welcome to join us
for a complimentary glass of wine, beer, or soda and a chance to meet other engineers from
throughout the state. Our section presidents will also be joining us to introduce
themselves and welcome our newly inducted members. Please do not forget to bring your free
drink tickets included in your registration packet !!!
Friday Wine Tasting
For Oenophiles, Neophytes and Everyone in
between who enjoys wine... A comparative wine tasting will be conducted by a guest
lecturer. Depending upon availability of specific varietals in September, the theme is
anticipated to be "California vs. the World" Attendees will be asked to
participate. (i.e.- your opinions will be solicited)
When: Friday, September 15th 5:30 to 6:30 P.M.
Where: Hyatt Regency Long Beach - 2nd floor Rotunda (with a view)
Cost: $25 per person. (seating limited to the first 48 individuals)
Presidents Cup
Race
The Presidents Cup race is a Convention
tradition! Come and cheer on your regional association as the four regionals compete in an
exciting brain-teaser competition.
First-Timers
Reception: Is this your first SEAOC Convention?
If so, let us help start off your convention
experience. Please join us at the FIRST-TIMERS RECEPTION! Meet SEAOC association
presidents, SEAOSC committee chairpersons and other first timers.
Golf
The Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday
September 16th. at the historic Recreation Park Golf course in Long Beach, a short drive
from the hotel. The entry fee is $100.00 which includes Golf, Cart, Lunch and prizes. We
are limited to 40 players so please sign up early. First tee at 8:00 AM.
Beach Volleyball
Come represent your Section in a friendly
volleyball tournament including six-person teams with unlimited substitutions and liberal
rules.
This year there will be a volleyball tournament on
Saturday! The details are as follows:
- Winning Team gets $1000 evenly divided per player, Second
Place gets $200
- Coed 4 vs 4 Round Robin Style Play (each team plays each
team once)
- One team per SEAOC Division (SEAOSD, SEAONC, SEAOSC, SEAOCC)
- Tie Breaker Match if Necessary
- No referees, Honor System
- $100 entry fee per team up to 6 players per team (this may
change based on demand)
- No team stacking. All players must be members or convention
attendees (this may change based on demand)
- Time will be Saturday 9/16/06 from 1:00 PM
- Refreshments will be provided. There will be game balls but
teams are advised to bring their own.
- Each team gets 4 T-shirts (if a team has more than 4
players, the remaining 4 will be fairly distributed)
- Takes place at the nearest beach (.5 miles, 10 minute walk
from hotel)

Croquet
The annual intersectional croquet tournament
will begin at 1:00 PM on the lawn in front of the hotel. Three-person teams from the four
SEAOC associations will play single-elimination. The winning teams association will
be engraved on a perpetual trophy. Traditional whites admired. Gin Fizz and Bloody Mary
will be served. All convention members are invited to attend this spectical.
Tours
Anytime
Shoreline Village - a lively, scenic boardwalk
of quaint shops, specialty gifts, resturants and recreation rentals. Located across the
street from the hotel.
Rainbow Harbor - Home of the wooden tall
ships Californian and American Pride from America's Clipper ship era. Shop at the
beautiful Shoreline Village located across the street from the hotel via the pedestrian
bridge.
Queen Mary - Tour the legendary Queen
Mary, Art Deco floating palace, from the engine room to wheelhouse. As guests of the
Hyatt, you are entitled to free admission.
Russian submarine, code name Scorpion -
Tour the 300-foot Cold War submarine, moored along side the Queen Mary, and learn about
its secret missions.
Short informal local walking and driving tours will be
available including Belmont Shore's Second Street, Midtown's 4th Street,
the Broadway Corridor, and Gondola Getaway's. Descriptions will be available at the
Registration Desk.
Avalon at
Catalina Island
Join us for a day enjoying the
town of Avalon. We will start the day by taking the Catalina Express for about an hour
trip to the island. On Catalina Island, sightseeing tours will take you to sea lions, into
the world famous Casino Ballroom and into the interior to see the buffalo. Ride in a glass
bottom boat or semi-submersible submarine, swim or snorkel in the clear waters. Departs
next to the Long Beach Aquarium, which is walking distance from the hotel. Time: Meet at
the Terminal next to the Queen Mary 8:00 am. First trip departs around 8am; last trip
around 7pm with trips from Catalina regularly throughout the day with departures about
every 2 hours. Cost: $50/ passenger roundtrip. Additional tours once on island extra and
up to each individual. Plan to wear layers of clothing. Bring a jacket or sweater,
sunglasses, hat, sunscreen.
Scuba
Diving at Catalina Island
Enjoy a two-tank dive
in the kelp beds of Catalina Island. We will start the trip by taking the Catalina Express
for an hour trip to the island, once there we will board a chartered dive boat for scuba
diving the unique kelp beds of the island. Time: 7-5 pm. Meet at the Terminal next to the
Queen Mary. Cost $200/diver (includes transportation to and from the island). Plan to wear
layers of clothing. The local dive shop on the island has a complete selection of rental
equipment for those without equipment. Certified divers only.
