SEAOC 2006 CONVENTION - Sept. 13-16, 2006

Every year Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) organizes a convention which focuses on the newer developments in the field of structural engineering. This year, the focus is different. It is different because for the first time, the technical program will also focus on the day-to-day operations of a structural engineer.

Papers will be presented on common practice topics. Handouts will be such that you can take them back to your office and use them as design aids.
This year, SEAOC will be holding their 75th annual convention from Thursday, September 13th through Saturday, September 16th, at
Hyatt Regency Long Beach, 200 S. Pine Ave, Long Beach 90802 in beautiful Long Beach. Our comprehensive and practical technical program plus the rewarding activities of the social program, promises to keep convention attendees entertained while continuing to build on our engineering education.

The year 2006 convention will be held at Long Beach, California. Long Beach has some unique attractions which the whole family can enjoy.  One of the nations best aquariums is in Long Beach along with museums, art galleries, beaches, and plenty of outdoor recreation.   Long Beach is so diverse it has something for everyone.  So whether you plan to stay for a day or a week we are certain you will find enough to make your stay fulfilling.

The main theme of “STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING PRACTICE UNDER THE IBC” has been tentatively chosen for the Technical Program.  The emphasis is centered around the use of the IBC, showcasing projects designed using the IBC or ASCE 7 seismic design provisions, with the goal of highlighting substantial differences between current seismic design procedures and the IBC.  This would include “lessons learned” and “things to watch for.”  A parallel theme will be dedicated to “design best practices” highlighting practical, efficient structural design methods and procedures used in the structural design of low to high-rise buildings and other structures.  This would apply to both the rehabilitation and repair of existing structures and new building design

So, mark your calendar now, September 13 - September 16, 2006. Bring your family along. The convention committee has scheduled the technical sessions in such a manner that you will have plenty of time to enjoy with your loved ones.
